Welcome to our journey through the Psalms in 2017. We as a church are reading through the Psalms this year. We will basically read 3 Psalms per week. I pray your reading is going well and God is speaking powerfully through His Word.
Psalms 1-6 (ESV); Weeks 1-2
The realization of sin and repentance of sin are not easy concepts for most of us. Thankfully, the Holy Spirit convicts us and we are led to turn to the Lord for forgiveness and redemption. In this Psalm, David asks God for healing from his sin and his disobedience. He asks God to “Be gracious to me O Lord, for I am languishing; heal me, O Lord for my bones are troubled.” In David’s repentance he acknowledges that life is crushing him and hurting him and his sin has brought pain.
Sometimes life and our sin can make us feel physically hurt. Disobedience to His Word and departure from His ways, leads to destruction. If you remember Psalm 1 gives us the encouragement to be steadfast in the Word and with the Lord. In our sin, if we will turn to God, honestly repent, He has promised to forgive us. 1 John 1:9 reminds us that “if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
As the new year begins may we allow the Holy Spirit to show us our sin and cry out to God for forgiveness.
See you in Church
